Beethoven's piano works which fall outside the category of the sonata and variations are published in three volumes. The Rondos, Little Sonatas, and Sonatinas comprise the second volume in the set. The first part of this Urtext edition contains all the authentic finished rondos by Beethoven, arranged in the ascending numerical order found in the Kinsky-Halm catalog, beginning with the ones without an opus number, and followed by those with one. The second part of the volume contains those short sonatas which are traditionally not included among the 32 "great" sonatas. To differentiate them from the sonatas, the term sonatinas has been used for them, by convention originating from the publishers. Editorial additions have been kept to a minimum and are explained in those notes.
