En 1998 parait a Paris le premier atlas de cartographie automatique de l'Iran etabli a partir des resultats du recensement general de la population et de l'habitat de novembre 1986 et publie avec la participation du CNRS, de l'Institut des Sciences Humaines et des Recherches Culturelles (Pajuheshgah-e 'Olum-e Ensani va Motale'at-e Farhangi) et de l'Institut Francais de Recherche en Iran (IFRI). Les langues de publication sont le francais et l'anglais et un resume en persan accompagne le texte. La presente edition d'une nouvelle version de l'Atlas d'Iran, basee sur le recensement general de la population et de l'habitat de 1996 ainsi que sur d'autres statistiques accessibles, a pour but de mettre a jour le premier atlas, mais aussi d'etudier scietifiquement, en comparant les statistiques, les transformations sociales, economiques et culturelles du pays au cours des dix annees concernees (1986-1996).
